Responsibilities and Qualifications



The Learning Developer is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining comprehensive learning solutions in support of internal programs, projects and initiatives.  The selected candidate will also facilitate instructor led courses from time to time.


Development efforts include traditional and online learning strategies. Collaboration and consulting will occur with subject matter experts and stakeholders to determine and propose performance improvement solutions, including learning or other activities, to support the performance gap.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


-Proven ability to create materials suited for a variety of delivery methods (instructor-led, web-based and e-learning).
-Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline) and designing e-learning courses.


Instructional Design and Development
-Applies instructional systems approach to curriculum design, re-design and development.
-Conducts instructional design phases and activities for the proposed learning solution.
-Analyzes learning needs utilizing needs assessment techniques.
-Applies principles of adult learning to the design and development of learning solutions.
-Designs and develops innovative solutions for instructor-led (in person or via web) and online courses. (These solutions may include job aids, online reference, facilitator guides, facilitator presentation, participant workbooks, and eLearning).
-Maintains and promotes approved standards for all learning solutions.
-Facilitates train-the-trainer sessions, meetings and other events.
-Conducts evaluations to determine the effectiveness of the learning solution.
-Conducts on-going audits of existing curricula to ensure format or content changes/updates are completed in a timely manner.
-Participates in departmental and cross-functional teams for the purpose of curriculum and instructional development.
-Understands and can interpret adult learning theory and is able to adjust techniques for maximum learning transfer.


Training Solution Recommendation
-Works with stakeholders to identify the performance gap.
-Collects training needs and objectives from business units for identified knowledge or skill gap.
-Identifies and fulfills (internal) customer needs by gathering information, asking probing questions, applying knowledge, and offering solutions.
-Consults with subject matter experts and stakeholder to ensure accuracy and usability of the targeted learning intervention.
-Presents training solutions effectively to internal stakeholders and gathers feedback.
-Ability to analyze and recommend learning solutions to support the needs of the business.


Computer-Aided Course Authoring
-Identifies basic concepts, navigational elements and interactive capabilities of course authoring tools used for learning solutions.
-Develops online learning solutions with minimal guidance using authoring tools.
-Recommends course authoring tools and technology solutions for learning.


Business Acumen
-Demonstrates a big picture understanding of the business, its interrelationships, and priorities.
-Evaluates the impact of learning on performance and recommends performance solutions strategies or learning opportunities.
-Executes assigned activities to strategic business goals.


Project Management
-Manages multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
-Provides timely project updates.
-Conducts regular and ad-hoc project review with project team, sponsors, and clients.
-Works with supervisor to identify learning specific risks associated with a project and create contingency plans.



-Minimum of 2 years experience in a learning and development role within an organization.
-Previous experience with development and facilitation of instructional materials.
-Knowledge of instructional design methodologies and their application, including adult learning theories.
-Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, PPT, Excel, and Outlook). 
-Proven ability to effectively work with multiple departments across an organization.
-Can identify the business outcome and potential measurements.
-Can work with a variety of SME levels. 
-Exhibits strong analytical and problem solving skill.
-Ability to demonstrate adaptability and flexibility.
-Ability to work independently exercising discretion and judgment.
-Strong collaborative abilities, within and across the organization, to fulfill needs and requests.
